Seed corn (deep-rooted corn)
A plantar corn is a dense, painful growth with a hard “core” that extends deep into the skin. It most often appears on the soles, toes, or between them. The main causes include constant pressure, friction, wearing uncomfortable shoes, foot deformities, or old injuries. It is characterized by sharp, stabbing pain when pressed and can interfere with walking. Although it may resemble a regular callus on the surface, it requires a completely different treatment approach.
How the procedure is performed:
The specialist begins by examining the lesion to confirm that it is indeed a plantar corn (and not, for example, a wart). Then:
- the area is treated using special rotary instruments (burrs), which gradually remove the corn layer by layer;
- the core (root) of the corn is precisely extracted down to the base without damaging the surrounding tissue;
- the resulting cavity is disinfected and treated with a healing agent;
- if needed, a protective dressing or pressure-relieving orthotic element is applied.
Benefits of the procedure:
For many, it’s important to know how comfortable the procedure will be and how quickly they can return to daily activities.
- Precise and painless removal
- Rapid pain relief
- No surgical intervention required
- Immediate results
- Prevention of recurrence
THE SPECIALIST ALSO IDENTIFIES THE CAUSE OF THE CORN AND PROVIDES RECOMMENDATIONS TO PREVENT ITS RECURRENCE (SUCH AS CHANGING FOOTWEAR, INSOLES, OR FOOT CARE ROUTINE).
How the problem is solved:
Once the core is completely removed, the pain disappears and the skin begins to heal. If the core is not fully eliminated, the corn may return — that’s why it’s important to entrust the procedure to a specialist.
